As a current Huntingtonion, I was excited to work with the Keith-Albee on creating a new website and logo. I have seen many plays and musical acts and know the gorgeous interior of that theater well. I wanted to make something modern and user-friendly but also to include as many images and inspirations from the interior of the historic theater as I could squeeze in.
Keith-Albee came to me with the idea of modernizing their logo by simplifying the shapes and using clean sans-serif typography. I chose HD Coltan for the primary font and Kiona for the secondary. Coltan has a lot of presence and is immediately legible while Kiona is sharp and angular complementing the logo type. In the animation I wanted to incorporate some of the shapes found in the interior construction of the playhouse itself to tie the logo to the building.
The Keith-Albee is one of the last remaining theatres designed and built by Thomas Lamb in 1928. Of the 153 theatres around the world only 43 remain open today. The Keith is very important to the Huntington area and to the state not just for the acts it brings to the town but also for preserving the vaudevillian design aesthetic. When designing the site I knew I wanted it to be of a modern design with a clean and simple ui that would effectively update the appearance and ease-of-use of the site. I also endeavored to use as many photos of the Keith as I could in the design to really show and attract people to the theatre and the area.
